Artist’s Statement

Designed around a mutual attraction between items and imagery from everyday life, my work is based on personal relationships with mental and physical disabilities, parental status, and anxieties associated with daily life. Through the use of satire, irony, word play, liberal definitions, and modifications of both material and scale, these seemingly unrelated items mesh together in a manner that not only elevates the original uses or meanings of the materials, but their generally accepted responsibilities as well. The resulting hybrids are the physical manifestations of these relationships, created to serve as tools for specific needs or functions. In many instances, those functions are merely perceived, rather than authentic.
